Sophie Duez

ACTRICE FRANCE

Sophie Duez likes to define herself as a “media individual », a carrier of narratives.

This is the common thread that she has explored at the Sorbonne, in the world of photography, on the cinema or television screens, on the theatrical scene or on the political scene.

The public discovered her in 1984 with the great success of Michel Blanc’s film “Marche à l’ombre” for which she was nominated as best female hopeful. She was still a student and does not think of acting as a profession, but is curious to experiment with this other dimension of interpretation and representation that she could already approach thanks to her studies of stylistics and her activity as a model.

From 1985 onwards, she became omnipresent in cinema and television with, among others, “Una spina nel cuore” by Alberto Lattuada, “Je hais les acteurs” by Gérard Krawczyk, “In extremis” by Olivier Lorsac, “Présumé dangereux” by Gérard Lautner, “Serbie année zéro” by Goran Markovic, “Holozän” by Manfred Eicher and Heins Bütler, “Le sort comme un rat” by Ivan Pavlov or “Barbecue” by Eric Lavaine.

She played the main role in many TV movies in the 90s and created the character of Marie Saint Georges on France 2 in the series “Quai n°1” with Olivier Marchal.

She made her theatrical debut in 1989 in the role of the Queen in Victor Hugo’s “Ruy Blas” and Knut Hamsun’s “À la merci de la vie” and devoted herself mainly to it during the 2000s with the only staging of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues”, and with 5 years of creation as an actress and director within the troupe of the Théâtre National de Nice directed by Daniel Benoin. After the theatrical version of Festen, she played classical and contemporary roles, directed by Alfredo Arias, Krzysztof Varlikowsky, Daniel Mesguish, and Jérôme Savary in a musical comedy, a genre that she exploited in the personal creation of the musical “Nono Bleu”.

From 2008 to 2016, always present on television screens, she turned to cultural action as an elected official then in charge of a mission for the metropolis of Nice, directing the rehabilitation of an industrial wasteland and the creation of an art film biennial.

In 2018 she returned to the theater with Molière’s Tartuffe in London and she continues to appear regularly in television series. In 2022, she will be in the next feature film by Eric Lavaine “Plancha”.
